Google Wins The Prince Asturias Award

Google is the winner of the Prince of Asturias Award for Communications and Humanities 2008 as the best form on the internet story.
“Meeting in Oviedo, the Jury of the Prince of Asturias Award for Communications and Humanities 2008 agrees to grant the prize to the Internet search engine Google, created by Sergey Brin and Larry Page,” said the spokesman of the jury.
The Prince of Asturias Foundation has decided to hand this award to Google because has made possible in a decade a “huge cultural revolution and has led to widespread access to knowledge over ideological barriers, economic, linguistic or racial.”
Currently, Google allows millions of users access to an entire universe of information quickly and organized. Recently, the company has become the platform for YouTube videos and online advertising agency DoubleClick.
In addition, The Prince of Asturias Foundation has underlined the commitment of Google, in collaboration with UNESCO, in a literacy project to promote reading and education worldwide.
The Prince of Asturias prize is assigned with 50 thousand Euros and a reproduction of a statuette designed by Joan Miró. The awards will be given next fall in Oviedo, Spain.
